Is fall around the corner?  With days getting shorter, water temperatures dipping (now below 70 degrees) it surely means some interesting fishing ahead of us.  Walleye fishing continues to be good with a very nice 29 1/2 incher caught and released this week.

Joe P. scores!

Some other good fish as well…

“Smiling” Bob looking serious

Now that’s how you smile!

Possibly a touch of lip movement…

Smiling is easy!

….perhaps it’s an upside down smile?

Nice fish….great smile!

It wasn’t all about the walleye.  Andy had his sights set on some backwoods adventuring.  ***WARNING*** The following images may be disturbing for some viewers.

A chunky Clearwater trout.

Man with no pants.

Now, to be fair to Andy, he was actually in rescue mode retrieving my boat on McGregor which apparently drifted off possibly during the 7 1/2 inch deluge a few weeks back.  Unfortunately some water in the gas tank made fishing there impossible.  In the future I will be more diligent in making sure guests tie things back up and use the lock!  Stay tuned for photos of guests being flogged  for disobedience.

Perch Rodeo Update:  As the season winds down the tension mounts.  Here Stu basks in the glow of taking the lead with an 11 1/2 inch bull perch…

Unfortunately his lead was fleeting….

That’s right…”uber” competitor, and ex good friend Andy Lewis becomes the usurper with an 11 3/4″ lunker.

Possibly wearing no pants is the key?

….or is it the frame of mind you get when you bring your action toys along on your fishing trip?  Here “fisherman Dan” holds the lead perch.  Still a few weeks left to wrestle the title away from Andy…bring on the competition!

On the musky front here’s a nice photo from early in the week…

One could easily say this photo is of a 50 plus fish….but in reality 47 1/2″ Still a great photo…..and fish!

Not all fish have to be big to be fun!

Let us conclude with a bit of “beef cake” for the ladies.  Proof that lake temps are still pretty nice…  ***WARNING*** More photos that some may find disturbing…

Joe P. after a hard day of pounding walleyes…

In conclusion if you are still thinking a fall fishing trip might be fun you had better act soon.  Don’t be like these two..

The sleeping dog catches no fish! Confusious.

  • Monster Perch!? Exciting times
    At Vermilion Bay Lodge.

  • Andy says:

Gord, you had a great group of guests at VBL this week! We. Had a great time with the exception of the portage lake fiasco. We look forward to a working motor when I return in September. I think there are 13” perch to be had during Musky madness week.

    • len says:

Andy; If I catch a 13″ perch during Musky Madness, I’ll put it in the live-well, and you can have it! When are you scheduled to arrive?

      • Andy says:

        Len,

We arrive on Saturday, 9-21. We would graciously accept any perch, as we have found them to be better eating then the muskies you have been eating. Now, if you catch a perch on one of those bucktails you are tossing it will surely be a winner.

        Andy
