Ice out update

..with gratuitous ice fishing action..

Well, a sudden warming trend has dramatically changed the landscape.  Here’s a view from the lodge…

Sorry, it’s April 1, right?

Oh yeah, so funny!  Back to reality.  Here’s a few shots in front of the lodge yesterday.

Snow levels are gradually shrinking and the lake is close to showing us some glare ice…but based on drilling a few holes yesterday there’s still a few feet of good ice.

The perch go wild…

Wearing her bear bell and machete, Susanne pauses to catch a “bull perch”!
Not to be outdone….
It’s looking like perch for dinner!

A week or so ago I had the chance to travel into a lake I’ve never fished before.  Here’s a short video from that trip!

Still haven’t made your ice out guess yet?  When you’re ready contact Gord to submit your entry!  Good luck!

  1. I was looking as that first pic and thought that’s not right from watching Gillespie show from this past week. Looked to be fishing the secret lake. They hammered them pretty good

  2. Well, it looks like we have a new “Perch Queen” in town, with Susanne stepping up to fill the void left by Perchmaster. There was a time when he could do no wrong when it came to catching perch at VBL. That era has ended, but it was a good run while it lasted. Please join me in saluting Perchmaster. Gone but not forgotten.

Testimonials

On behalf of the Boyes Group, I would like to pass on our sincere thanks for hosting the Muskie Madness Week and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at VBL and had a great time!! This was our 7th year on Eagle Lake and we have stayed at a few other lodges but VBL takes the cake hands down! You can definitely count us in for next year. I’m happy to see you post some of my pics, they turned out well. Thanks again Gord for a wonderful week of fishing and your stellar hospitality, you run a first class operation, we look forward to seeing you next year!
