June Report, 2024

A month ago we were welcoming the rain and the increasing lake levels. By the end of June we are thinking “enough already”! To sum up the weather this past month is easy….cold, wet & windy. That’s not to say we didn’t have the odd nice day but overall it was a test of grit and perseverance on the part of all involved. The fishing was challenging as well…not what I would consider on par with past seasons, but with so many cold fronts and windy days it kind of makes sense. To top it all off this month has seen a bumper crop of mosquitos. As we move into July I’m seeing some better weather in the forecast and am optimistic we can get things back on track. Here’s a photo collection, in no particular order, of fishing moments over the past month…

The cleaning ladies, Heather, Leanne & Mary with some appreciation from the guests!
Dan Perkis with the biggest musky so far….a nice 50 incher.
We are also seeing more moose!
….and more water!

So after looking at some of these great photos it seems June wasn’t so bad after all, but when you leave out the rain and wave photos it tends to create an impression. Hopefully everyone had a few nice days in June!

While we still have June in our minds let me just remind the folk that expressed an interest in next June (2025), or May for that matter, that unless you have received a confirmation from me you have no reservation. I mention that now because of number of groups weren’t sure about how many people or other details…….but in the meantime I’m getting inquiries from new folk. The moral of the story is: Get something in the reservation book sooner than later!

  1. I can honestly say that I have seen a fair number of bobcats but I would never have guessed they would swim in open water. Is the fruit tree a wild plum?

If you’re looking for an outstanding vacation spot for the serious fisherman or a family get away you should consider Vermillion Bay Lodge on Eagle Lake, Ontario Canada. We have stayed at many lake resorts over the years, but none offer the simple pleasures of this one. The lake is large enough and holds enough fish for the most adventuresome fisherman and yet easy for local family fishing for young children. Bring your own boat or use one of the aluminum boats (20 hp) at the lodge. Boat dockage is well protected from the wind and allows easy access to the water.

What sets this lodge apart from most others is it is always clean, well kept with lots to do including paddle boats canoes, bon fires in the evenings and a just plain friendly atmosphere.
