Well, August has wound down with hints of Fall in the air. Geese have been seen heading south and the annual turnover of Gull Rock from gulls to eagles is occurring.
The “usual gang” of gulls on the rock seem to disappear around this time to be replaced by some newcomers and brazen eagles who want to be first to dine on the fish gut pile…
The sunrise is occurring more to the north these days…..
Another sure sign of fall are the mergansers flocking up.
It was a busy August with plenty of fish being caught and some dandy’s as well. Two walleyes over 30 inches were landed as well as a 51 1/2 inch musky which is the largest so far this season. Was it all perfection? As usual the fish often presented us with a challenge. Seems walleye continued to be scattered from weed edges (8-12 feet of water) and down to the briny depths of Eagle Lake……here one day and gone the next.
It was a great month for the musky anglers but other than the chalk board list in the fish house I seem to be shy of musky photos, but here’s a few to give you a feel for what went on……
Let me cut to the chase and showcase some of the other VBL’ers and their catches……
Meanwhile…….
While things may seem to be winding down we still have a few weeks to go with hopefully some stellar catches and a lot of good times. Thanks to everyone in August for making it a good one! In a few weeks we will be hosting our annual Musky Madness week. Interested in some fall fishing? I’ve had a last minute cancellation and have one cabin available for a few adventurous anglers…….give me a call.

On behalf of the Boyes Group, I would like to pass on our sincere thanks for hosting the Muskie Madness Week and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at VBL and had a great time!! This was our 7th year on Eagle Lake and we have stayed at a few other lodges but VBL takes the cake hands down! You can definitely count us in for next year. I’m happy to see you post some of my pics, they turned out well. Thanks again Gord for a wonderful week of fishing and your stellar hospitality, you run a first class operation, we look forward to seeing you next year!
