Eagle Lake Ice Out: Update #5 “Happy Easter”

1200 # Marlin caught in 1999 at the Playa del Sol

Why is there a shot of a giant marlin in the Eagle Lake ice out contest?

No reason, other than as the Electric Beaver blog master I can do what I want!  Actually this is my continued “lead up” to the coming post on our recent trip to the Baja, Mexico and the fishing that ensued.  Pictured above is one of the largest marlin ever caught on the East Cape….a 1200 pound monster caught by Bob & A.D. who we met this year at the Hotel Playa del Sol.  We even fished on the same boat, the Maria 2, with the same captain, Martin.  Did my trip in the Maria 2 end up with the same situation, in that it took 3 hours to tow my fish back in?  Did I have to cut my fish in half in order to weigh it?  You’ll have to wait for the answer……….now back to the Eagle Lake Ice Out!

How early will this Eagle Lake Ice Out be???

The temperatures have taken a dip over this Easter weekend, but the winds are strong.  How does this year compare with the past?  Let’s check out this next shot from last year…….almost 3 weeks later than current conditions!!!!

Ice conditions in a similar state of progress back in 2011

As you can see, the Eagle Lake Ice Out last year was much later………and there was more water in the lake…

….and although I am not making a prediction here, I would bet this will be the earliest ice out ever!  Of course it’s not over until the fat lady sings, so stay tuned for further Eagle Lake Ice Out updates…..and if you haven’t logged a prediction in yet, you had better do so soon!

    1. Yes, and I may have to share my perch hole with Kurt “the perch queen” if he can’t get back into his usual honey hole due to low water……..

        1. My, the language! I suggest you and Mark bring a pair of those “inner-tube” fishing devices where you wear flippers to propel yourself across the lake. Of course this would limit the size of the cooler you could take along to put your perch in. Perhaps, it could be on a separate “tow behind”. Think of the calories you could burn! There’s always the canoe, or paddle boat options as well……..

This is a first class resort located on Vermillion Bay on Eagle Lake. The cabins are very clean and well kept. The boats are new with new motors and are in great shape. The owner will also clean your fish for you after your day on the water. Make no mistake the fishing on Eagle Lake is world class.

The Lodge is owned by Gord and Susanne Bastable who will make you feel welcome and before you know it you feel like family. They are the best of hosts. The atmosphere is low key and laid back leading to a great vacation.

This is my 19th year of enjoying the hospitality of the lodge and i can’t think of going anywhere else on Eagle Lake.
