Some big walleye……….

Last week was generally cool, wet and windy.  Fishing was not as consistent as it could have been, but some interesting fish were caught.  Here’s two very nice walleye.  Joe Smith with a 30 inch whopper, and Jeff Reau with a 31″.  Both released to grow even bigger.  Congratulations on two great catches!

  1. Friends…Walleyes like these are rarely caught by VBL guests on Eagle Lake. I’ve only seen one other in the 30″ class make it into my boat (caught by Andy last year) since I began fishing Eagle in the early 1980’s. So what Joe and Jeff have accomplished is significant and unlikely to be duplicated by other VBL guests in 2016. But, these giants are available for a skillful angler to catch. I have petitioned the Fish Gods for an opportunity later this season at VBL.

  2. These are really nice fish. Reminds me of walleye central post that alluded to genetics. I have made dozens of trip to Lake of the Woods and have never seen a 30 inch fish. Lots of 26-27 and I have caught two 29 inch fish, but I think a 30 incher is very rare there. It clearly illustrates the importance of releasing these fish with proven genes to grow large. Kudos to these guys for letting them go!
