Opening week 2011

Well we are down to 1 week before the big 2011 opening day with the cold spring this year across the country one can only hope that the Canada 2011 opening day brings some more spring like conditions.

As I think back over the years and the different conditions we have had compared to this year I can only expect that this will be one GREAT opener.
Cold water equals shallow water lake trout and hungry shoreline walleyes.
Can’t wait to arrive at VBL on Friday afternoon crack open a moosehead compliments of Gord I hope….
Look forward to meeting some new guests this year and GOOD LUCK to all the others that will be making the trek north of the border to VBL..

  1. Don’t like your weather forecast this week, in the 70’s now hope the water don’t warm up too much….

    1. Went out last evening with Susanne trolling for trout…..water temps were 56-58 degrees! Marked some trout in deeper water…30 feet or so but no bites. Was calm and sunny yesterday so thought I would check things this morning. Water temps were 51 degrees, which is better! Caught a trout at the highway, and have it in the pen awaiting the MNR to come put a transmitter in it. No camera today….mine is in the shop! The forecast does look warm. I wouldn’t give up on the trout but you may need to go with some deeper divers or three way swivels with some weight. Heading out today or tomorrow to get things set up on Clearwater and McGregor……..including seats…..

  2. Perchmaster….we want daily updates. The professor and I were just up in your backyard ripping lips, but it just isn’t the same as VBL.

    Andy

    1. Yes, daily updates would be right nice. And please, stay the hell away from my hoodie. It was won fair and square.

  3. Well I will have Gord give the updates I am not bringing puter with one of the reasons to go this far away is to get away from this stuff.
Professor If I find it I may bring it home for myself if it looks as nice as Gord say’s.
Should be in camp by 4:00 on Friday…. Can’t wait!!!!
    HAPPY FISHING!!!!

  4. Don’t worry Professor. Those hoodies are soooooooo special I haven’t even received them yet! It would be too bad if the Perchmaster wasn’t able to lay his eyes on one….but that’s what happens when you come in May.

    1. So I am just 5 hours away from picking up my moosehead and hoodie and you have neither in stock. What the hell.

    2. Not only did not have the hot hoodie in stock the beer store did not even have Moosehead in stock, thanks to Susanne and the Dryden store we got our Moosehead.

    1. O Andy we did the job above and beyond but Gord would not come in that day till he looked in his binoculars from around the corner from the walleye highway and waited till he could tell Mike and Bamboo Mark were done cleaning all he did was package the 100 perch.

  5. Dustin,

Gord must be building the suspense. When you arrive, he will tell you all the hot baits that you should have brought.

If you like GREAT fishing, hospitality and affordability, Vermilion Bay Lodge is highly recommended. I have been making the trip to Vermilion Bay Lodge for the past 10 years and have never once been disappointed. If you like great walleye, northern, musky and trout fishing, this place should not be overlooked. The fishing has been excellent… no matter what time we went. Gordy and Susanne are wonderful hosts that will make you feel right at home. Check it out – I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
