Let the ice fishing begin…January, 2014

The cold weather has finally broken allowing a foray onto the ice and snow….and there’s plenty of both.  A somewhat windy Sunday produced a few lake trout for dinner that night.  Jigging spoons was the only tactic we tried that day.

Fortunately for us, this nice rock cliff and nearby deep water was a good spot to fish out of the wind.  Susanne holding a good eater.

Hugh (G. Rection) came along for his first N.W. Ontario ice fishing experience.  While striking a good pose, Hugh is working on a new handle…”Fishless Wonder”.  I’m sure Hugh will produce on our next outing.  Fortunately for him, his lack of fish “catching” did not interfere with his fish “eating” abilities!

Even Mike popped in to check up on us.  Likely the only one on the lake wearing a t-shirt and retro moose hide jacket for winter protection.

It was a quick trip, but it was a good test of equipment and lake conditions.  Seems the trout lakes have good ice, no slush and smooth riding conditions.  Eagle, shows signs of slush, so caution is advised….unless you want to walk home!  Stay tuned for more ice fishing to come.  Interested in ice fishing?  Give me a call!

    1. He’s heading 400 km’s north of Yellowknife to drill for diamonds…maybe this weekend. Unless your question was why is he driving around in a moose jacket? That answer I don’t have…

  1. Good to see the family out on the ice. I think Mike should be featured in one of the new reality shows that seem to be all about discovering gold and gems. Perchmaster….just think about the possibilities of catching bull perch through the ice??

Testimonials

This is a first class resort located on Vermillion Bay on Eagle Lake. The cabins are very clean and well kept. The boats are new with new motors and are in great shape. The owner will also clean your fish for you after your day on the water. Make no mistake the fishing on Eagle Lake is world class.

The Lodge is owned by Gord and Susanne Bastable who will make you feel welcome and before you know it you feel like family. They are the best of hosts. The atmosphere is low key and laid back leading to a great vacation.

This is my 19th year of enjoying the hospitality of the lodge and i can’t think of going anywhere else on Eagle Lake.
