June 24 Bass & Walleye

This has been one of the more unusual springs in terms of weather.  Water temperatures and weed growth are all several weeks behind.  This past week was probably the climax in terms of bass spawning with some hot and heavy action especially back on some of the portage lakes.  The Wilson group who went back to Caribou twice last week reported some fantastic action.  Walleye fishing is finally starting to establish some normal patterns.  Musky, on the other hand, is problematic with the lack of weeds and the scattered nature of their food source.  The Perkis group has normally done very well trolling for musky (they caught 14 several years ago) but struggled to put one in the net this year.

Such is the nature of fishing.  This week has started out with some fine walleye action.  The forecast is for some warmer temperature which should get things back on track for all species.  In the meantime here’s a few pictures of what happened here last week…

We also had a gathering of “Walleye Central” (not sure what that is?  Google it.) members…

If you’re looking for an outstanding vacation spot for the serious fisherman or a family get away you should consider Vermillion Bay Lodge on Eagle Lake, Ontario Canada. We have stayed at many lake resorts over the years, but none offer the simple pleasures of this one. The lake is large enough and holds enough fish for the most adventuresome fisherman and yet easy for local family fishing for young children. Bring your own boat or use one of the aluminum boats (20 hp) at the lodge. Boat dockage is well protected from the wind and allows easy access to the water.

What sets this lodge apart from most others is it is always clean, well kept with lots to do including paddle boats canoes, bon fires in the evenings and a just plain friendly atmosphere.
