June 30…Big Musky, Walleye, Bass, Mayflies, Good Times…

It was a fine week of fishing.  Weather has been steadily warming and weed beds showing some signs of growth.  We are still behind from last year though.  Mayflies have made their appearance in abundance the past few days.  The bite has continued to be shallow, although some good catches of walleye are starting off some of the closer mid lake humps.  Musky action is heating up with some great catches.  Both Greg @ eagle eye guiding and Cal @ Cal Ritchie guide service have posted some beauties.  Here’s a 55 incher from this past week…

A giant 55 incher for a lucky angler fishing with guide Cal Ritchie!

A few of the groups last week made the trek back into the portage lakes.  Some good bass action still, but the trout seem to be elusive.  What isn’t elusive is the bug population on the trail…!  On a side note the busted oars and non-functioning antique motor in Otter Lake made it back to the lodge (thanks guys for taking the initiative to haul it back!).  The oars are back in shape ready to head back in.  The motor is at the fix it shop.  Seems it must have run long enough for someone to bust the shear pin on a rock……hmmmm?  One consideration for this winter might be a bigger boat and decent motor on Otter.  Yes?  No?
So let’s see a few pictures from last week to get a sense of what is going on…

Some shots from around camp and the swimming point…

This is a first class resort located on Vermillion Bay on Eagle Lake. The cabins are very clean and well kept. The boats are new with new motors and are in great shape. The owner will also clean your fish for you after your day on the water. Make no mistake the fishing on Eagle Lake is world class.

The Lodge is owned by Gord and Susanne Bastable who will make you feel welcome and before you know it you feel like family. They are the best of hosts. The atmosphere is low key and laid back leading to a great vacation.

This is my 19th year of enjoying the hospitality of the lodge and i can’t think of going anywhere else on Eagle Lake.
