July 14-Wet And Wild!

Sometimes bigger is better.  A bigger musky or walleye is always nice.  How about a record fish…nice!  We just set a record that wasn’t as much fun…192 mm of rain, which is 7 1/2 inches in one day!  Let’s see what that day was like…

On a positive note, this was not our first wash out experience.  Everything was back in shape the next few days with minimal disruption.  At least this year no boats went under.  Another one for the history books!
Speaking of history here’s an interesting video featuring First Nations elder Leonard Skye discussing some of Eagle Lake’s past from the native perspective.  Some of the individuals who he brings up were people I guided with back in the day (Albert Skye, Joe Napish) which makes me somewhat historical I guess (or just old).

While we are still into history, here’s a shot of the old Johnson outboard that you may have noticed by the fireplace in the lodge…

The motor was given to me by Jim K. from Minneapolis a “few” years back.  Turns out this motor was in the family since 1955 when it was a Christmas gift.

Here’s a young Jim (on the right) with his brother Tom and mom.  Note the motor on the right.  Jim and Tom were at the lodge this past week and gave us this memento.
Of course we needed to try and recreate this…

What about the fishing?  Of course fish have been caught.  More activity on humps and deeper water, but still shallow water action as well.  Here’s a few shots from Dave & Dan Witzlib’s recent trip…

If you take the time to view the link with Leonard Skye you might recognize him from the River Monster episode “Canadian Horror”.   If you haven’t seen that episode check it out.
