Moon phases are said to have an effect on fish behavior. Musky anglers especially subscribe to this “musky magic”. This past week was prime with positive fishing voodoo. Plenty of musky were on the move…unfortunately this did not always translate into biting one’s lure, but that’s musky for you. Here’s a pictorial visit of some of last week’s nicer fish…
As you might recall there is no night fishing allowed on Eagle Lake, which means you have a half hour after sunset before you need to stop fishing. During last week sunset was around the 8:35 mark…so 9:05 was the stop time. Some discussion around the fish house table revolved around some controversial musky photo’s from Eagle Lake that featured a totally dark background. Is that legit? Was it the fault of the flash? Here’s an interesting example of a musky photo taken 10 minutes before the cut off time….Nick Stemper and a 45 1/2 incher… Plenty of light still. My conclusion would be that a dark photo is likely a rule breaker…no need for that.
This past week wasn’t all about the musky. Walleye were active and surprisingly shallow…10-15 feet in some locations!

Thank you very much for making my get a way week so enjoyable. Dan and I had a great time. You and Susanne should be commended on how clean and well maintained your cabins and lodge are. I will recommend you to anyone that is looking to go to Canada fishing and I look forward to the time I can come back.
