July 1…Happy Canada Day!

Funny to think that’s it’s July already…

ā€¦ and we are only working on opening our third cabin! The cabin 8 renovation is in it’s final phase (would have been ready in May) and the beer cooler in the fish house hasn’t yet been plugged in! The fish house boards are empty. It’s a weird year. What can I say? Let’s look at some positives. I’ve been able to rebook all of those looking to move their reservations to next year….excellent! Why is this such a big deal you may ask? It’s a big deal because I’m finding out our clientele, our guests, our friends are an exceptional group of people. It was a fully packed 2020, and out of all those groups so far almost everyone has graciously moved their deposits to next year. Not only that but because we are scheduling our arrivals to alternating Saturdays and Wednesdays next year it means totally disrupting people’s plans…but I’ve only been met with co-operation and people just happy to have a spot. It’s a great feeling to have customers that loyal…thank you! Some of you have expressed concern over us having losing a season. Not to worry. We’ve been here almost 30 years and this is our home. We will be here when things get back to normal…you can count on that! To be totally honest though, this “off year” has given us valuable perspective on easing into a less hectic regime. I’ve eaten more walleye this spring than any I can remember…and actually caught them ourselves! Perhaps going forward we can work on that balance of work and play a bit more.

As the border closure gets extended further, while we still hope for a late season it might be advisable to consider your next “plan B”. We will continue to advise and update you on any changes, but we realize planning a trip and time off work is a big commitment. We are happy to make changes at the last minute if things don’t open up but till then we will remain optimistic.

    Happy Canada Day Gord and Susanne! Stupid Americans are likely going to cause another extension of the border closing. I have been honing my perch fishing skills this week in hopes of taking home another perch rodeo trophy. I even had a musky take a bluegill.

    Happy Canada Day. Us yanks are missing Vermillion Bay and the fishing. I am still holding out for a late season otherwise I will wait until next season with you and Susan.

    Gord… The cover photo of you in this post is very much like that of the original Maytag Repair Man. He was bored out of his mind because nobody called him for a washing machine repair job. But being bored is not a bad thing, on the contrary, it is a gift to unlock your creative side for something wonderful. Like clearing the portage trail into Clearwater. It would be a shame to let that become dangerously overgrown again.
