Ice Out 2023: Update #3

The weather has finally broken!

So big news in terms of rising temperatures and melting snow. The picture above is from today, April 11. Out in front of the lodge there’s probably 4 to 6 inches of water laying on top of the ice. It’s been a drastic change from a few days ago. Yesterday we went ice fishing….

It was good travelling on the lakes with plenty of snow…..at least in the morning!

Scott and Lynn joined us!

Some of you can probably guess where we went from this photo clue…

Take note of the snow color. The last major snowstorm ( a Colorado low) brought along some southern US dessert dirt mixed in with the snow. Definately a brown hue! Can’t remember ever seeing that before.

Several trout were caught. Note the classic Zebco Cardinal 3 reel……

Apparently Susanne had the hot hand…..

Gord: “You’re doing a fine job Susanne, keep up the good work!”

“A man and his sausages” Scott with his homemade venison sausages over some hot coals. Excellent!

By the end of the day we had very little snow and probably 3 inches of water on the lakes. It was a boggy trip home!

So, back to today we have this. Plenty of water, warm temperatures and some predictions of rain for later in the week. The creek is starting to flow and it’s feeling like spring!

  1. Gord I am going with **** for “Iceout”
    Thanx for the pic
I won’t be able to pick up any prizes until August

  2. You have not been a very good custodian of Cardinal 3 reels. I think this one should be a prize in this year’s ice-out contest?

    1. Andy…should ever the impossible happen and you manage to win the ice out contest, I will award you the coveted Cardinal 3.

If you’re looking for an outstanding vacation spot for the serious fisherman or a family get away you should consider Vermillion Bay Lodge on Eagle Lake, Ontario Canada. We have stayed at many lake resorts over the years, but none offer the simple pleasures of this one. The lake is large enough and holds enough fish for the most adventuresome fisherman and yet easy for local family fishing for young children. Bring your own boat or use one of the aluminum boats (20 hp) at the lodge. Boat dockage is well protected from the wind and allows easy access to the water.

What sets this lodge apart from most others is it is always clean, well kept with lots to do including paddle boats canoes, bon fires in the evenings and a just plain friendly atmosphere.
