Back up the creek……..

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Getting “stuff” back into the portage lakes was a bit trickier than expected.  With the low water the trip up the creek was a good hour and a half….even with a small boat and motor, but we made it.  Thank you to Terry for giving me a hand carting motors and gas around…….and for catching most of the fish! The portage trail is definitely the way to go this spring, but be warned, there is a bit of dampness to contend with .  Bring your boots.  As you can see some trout were caught in the mid afternoon……not the best time, and the fish were on the small side, but they’ll make fine “smokers’ for this weekend.  For those familiar with the back lakes, there is no need for explanation, other than to point out a 3 horse motor is destined for the “row boat”.  See everyone soon……!

      1. Professor. Think of this way. Now we have a backup motor not too far away when the motor on caribou doesn’t start, or the Bears decide to sniff gas fumes. You can then hear that familiar grunting sound as Gord returns to the landing with a motor over his shoulder. It will be like the “good old days”.

          1. Hi Andy…It’s difficult to forget that experience. While those farts were robust, they, fortunately, were odorless. I recall the three of us discussing how much faster we might get across Otter if the gas could be used for propulsion.

  1. The 3hp was perfect! Even worked when we had carry it to the next lake….. 🙂

Report and pics to come later this week!

      1. That was the motor on Otter. No bears looking for a buzz….but motor problems meant we hiked back to Otter and brought that little beast into Caribou for the day!

If you’re looking for an outstanding vacation spot for the serious fisherman or a family get away you should consider Vermillion Bay Lodge on Eagle Lake, Ontario Canada. We have stayed at many lake resorts over the years, but none offer the simple pleasures of this one. The lake is large enough and holds enough fish for the most adventuresome fisherman and yet easy for local family fishing for young children. Bring your own boat or use one of the aluminum boats (20 hp) at the lodge. Boat dockage is well protected from the wind and allows easy access to the water.

What sets this lodge apart from most others is it is always clean, well kept with lots to do including paddle boats canoes, bon fires in the evenings and a just plain friendly atmosphere.
