Early Spring Trip

I’ve only ever been to VBL in late May. I have no doubt any week of the season is a great time to be there, but for me early in the season offers some of the most diverse and best fishing! This year was no exception. Even with some unseasonably warm days, the walleye were findable, the lake trout were still a bit more shallow, and the smallies were very active!

The bugs were a bit worse than normal on the portage trails, but as always, the fishing on the other lakes was worth the trip. Gord even has a motor to use on Otter lake. (If you’ve made that trip…you know how big a deal that is!)

OK, enough words…on to the pictures:

The weather was mostly nice, but we did have some typical late-May weather that makes trips across VBL fun!

Gord and Suzanne (mostly Suzanne) were great hosts as always…and hanging out in lodge with a fire going, beverage in hand, and friends to talk to is always as good as the fishing! I’m already looking forward to my next early season trip to VBL!

  1. Dustin, I really enjoyed the fishing update. Gord has undoubtedly been a very busy boy working on all of the improvements. Glad to hear things went smoothly on Otter. Those rivets on the oar locks were going to give out any day. I hope the bear proofing strategy was effective. Those bears love sniffing the gas fumes. I found that a little troubling. Any entries in the perch rodeo?

Thank you very much for making my get a way week so enjoyable. Dan and I had a great time. You and Susanne should be commended on how clean and well maintained your cabins and lodge are.
