Ice Out Contest: Final Update

Well, today is May 4th and my final ice out update. The next post will be declaring “ice out” and the winner for 2025. Congratulations on all those that didn’t pick a date in April, as it’s looking like a later thaw. Water levels are gradually going up which is good news. Here’s a pictorial review from a walk about the estate this morning………

It’s spring but the snow piles are still hanging in there……

Especially in any shaded areas in the bush.

There’s something about this particular pile the dogs love…….snow cones? They can’t get enough of it.

The creek is flowing and the “long nosed trout” are back.

Heading around the horn…..

You may notice on the way in this year a clearing in the woods. A garage is in the works for this summer. My contribution is clearing the trees. The Ford 1700 is earning it’s keep.

Another view.

Next door the ice is out around the island……but in many areas still tight to shore.

I put this stick in at the edge of the water about a week ago. More lake since then.

There’s a good view of the ice situation as of today.

I’m hoping for another foot of water.

The start of another season at the lodge is almost upon us! Still time to get in your ice out guess if you haven’t already done so. Email me your guess at vbay@drytel.net .

First draft of a conservation effort being proposed by the Eagle Lake Conservation Group. If used indiscriminately forward facing sonar has the potential to damage fisheries. We hope an educational campaign, as a first step, can head off any problems. Any thoughts on this or on anything else, feel free to post a comment

  1. Ohhhh, the anticipation. The lodge across the bay says it will be tomorrow. Could this be the year that the contest is not rigged? Only time will tell.

Thank you very much for making my get a way week so enjoyable. Dan and I had a great time. You and Susanne should be commended on how clean and well maintained your cabins and lodge are. I will recommend you to anyone that is looking to go to Canada fishing and I look forward to the time I can come back.
