The Perkis family fishing vacation…

Ed, Dan and Katie Perkis have been coming since….well, since I used to chase down Danny for throwing rocks for the dogs, or other naughty deeds.  Lately he’s turned his energy towards musky fishing.  This year they did their latest trip yet…..October 4-11, which turned out to be a cool, windy one…….with one exception, the fishing!

Dan41-3 Dan49-2 It’s interesting to note that on day one and two, three muskies were boated, followed by a dry spell till the last day when another two met the net.  Two others were lost over the week, one when it was half way in the net!  All caught trolling.  Think this sounds like something you might try?  We are game if you are! Katie41Katie42 Katie46-2 The fish ranged from 41 to 49 inches.  The conditions were not for the faint of heart, so a big congratulations for sticking to it.  We expect to see them back again late in the fall next year.  Hopefully Ed will guide them to more fish, and maybe even get one himself! 46ReleaseDan41ReleaseIMG_3808IMG_3809

    Way to go, guys! The only thing better than catching muskies is getting them in tough conditions. That release photo may be the best I’ve seen. Super cool!

    Very nice indeed. Gord is now known as the Musky Whisperer but may actually get back to serious musky fishing if he ever gets over the heart ache of losing the big one. He does more whispering then he does fishing. My concern is that if the season keeps getting extended, Gord will never get to his “to do” list….shelves in the cabins, winches and new boat ramps at the portage lakes, metal gas tanks or storage on Caribou, etc. Let me pass on one great compliment….the cabins all have new cookware that is very nice! No more flaking teflon, so you will have to bring your own seasoning next year.

    The Perkis family have demonstrated real skill when it comes to late season musky, and they are hardy as well. Trolling for hours in cool/cold weather requires mental toughness and knowledge to dress appropriately for the conditions. I applaud their success. This certainly is one of the most effective weeks of musky fishing ever at VBL, perhaps the most effective. Bravo!
