Ice Out

Last year at this time, Gord was providing misleading information regarding the ice conditions at VBL. Some of you are wondering when this years contest will begin. Charles is biting at the bit. Some of you are wondering if the grand prize for 2012 was ever awarded or if this went the same way as the “best video” contest.

The truth of the matter is that Gord has been so busy making improvements at VBL that other things have been slipping. He is a bit grumpy and has declared the ice to be officially “out” after an unfortunate incident.

  1. This proves that Gord’s disdain of GM trucks knows no bounds. “Nice Chevy” he tells me, as he turns to vomit.

  2. Andy…It’s been an unusual 2013 season at VBL so far. This year’s Beaver arrived last year–that’s a first. Gord decides to leave the comfort of the lodge only once a month–to get a little exercise, but not so much as to “overdo it”. Now the early ice-out. What’s next? I’ve heard Dorothy Hamill is looking for a “Dancing with the Stars” partner and she has not denied her interest in Gord. Strange, but true.

      1. Hi Folks…This just in–Dorothy Hamill dumps Gord Bastable as her Dancing with the Stars partner. The rumor mill for weeks had been indicating that Hamill wanted Gord for her dance partner. In a sad and surprising about face, Hamill is now saying that she will instead be teamed with Tristan MacManus. No specific reason for sacking Gord was cited by Hamill, however sources close to Hamill suggested serious concerns with Gord’s mood swings and his tendency towards grumpiness.

Personally, I would have loved to watch Gord and Dorothy dance. I’m certain that the entertainment value would have been priceless. Word is that Gord is not doing too well with the news. Please consider sending a sympathy card–our friend could use a kind word.

  3. Well, well, well…… Leave for a few days and look what goes on. Andy’s report of an early ice out is bogus (or is it?). The first day of Spring is coming up on March 20th. Stay tuned for details on the true VBL ice out contest for 2013.

Teal River…..”chaser of little fish”…. Nice! Will Perchmaster take that laying down, or will he book a trip to VBL and fight back? There’s always Musky Madness Week…..

  4. When the cat is away the mice will play. I never realized that the professor had such a crush on Dorothy Hamill until I showed up at their place this last weekend for Mojaka Days. Nancy was sporting a Dorothy Hamill hair cut.

  5. Kurt, Charles is partial to fellow Canadians Joannie Rochette and Elizabeth Manley. In fact his favorite was Barbara Ann Scott. None however, had profound impacts on hair styles. Now if Gord could just get back to the ice contest, perhaps he could also consider a contest this year for best hat hair after a long day of fishing?

  6. Andy, I did not realize that the Professor had come out of the closet and confessed to his figure skater fetish. That said, should the Professor win the upcoming VBL ice out contest I will throw in to the prize pot my classic Playboy magazine, circa December 1998, which has revealing nude pictures of Gold medal ice skater Katarina Witt. Joe always had a weakness for bushy eye-brows!

If you’re looking for an outstanding vacation spot for the serious fisherman or a family get away you should consider Vermillion Bay Lodge on Eagle Lake, Ontario Canada. We have stayed at many lake resorts over the years, but none offer the simple pleasures of this one. The lake is large enough and holds enough fish for the most adventuresome fisherman and yet easy for local family fishing for young children. Bring your own boat or use one of the aluminum boats (20 hp) at the lodge. Boat dockage is well protected from the wind and allows easy access to the water.

What sets this lodge apart from most others is it is always clean, well kept with lots to do including paddle boats canoes, bon fires in the evenings and a just plain friendly atmosphere.
