Ice out update………..

Early April crocus are up in Vermilion Bay!

But the ice is still hanging in there!

Is Maggie depressed because Big Dave Brown guessed the wrong date for ice out? Perhaps she just wants her breakfast…….we’ll never know!

Well, this is a nice sunny day. Still plenty of ice. In talking with some of the old timers, the earliest ice out date on Vermilion Bay between the 1930’s and the 1970’s was April 18th in 1948. Since the 70’s though, we have had the ice go out on April 17th. This year…??

  1. Close enough for me the ice is out of the creek so I WINNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!
    Pay up big guy!!!!!!!
Don't for get to order those blog staff T-shirts for us?????

  2. Botanical Correction!!!! For all of you armchair naturalists, I detected an error in Gord's identification of "early April crocus". These are in fact not part of the crocus family, but are blue Glory-of-the-Snow (Chionodoxa spp). Gord stands corrected…

  3. P.S. What's all this about "Gord needs rain to get it up"?! Is there something I don't know?

Well finally WELCOME to the Blog Susanne….
We need to know no more on this we have heard and seen enough about Gord's "DARK SIDE".
So the big question today is did the ice go out before midnight?

On behalf of the Boyes Group, I would like to pass on our sincere thanks for hosting the Muskie Madness Week and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at VBL and had a great time!! This was our 7th year on Eagle Lake and we have stayed at a few other lodges but VBL takes the cake hands down! You can definitely count us in for next year. I’m happy to see you post some of my pics, they turned out well. Thanks again Gord for a wonderful week of fishing and your stellar hospitality, you run a first class operation, we look forward to seeing you next year!
