Ice Out Update: May 6, 2023

This was a couple of days ago. Today the deck at the lake is complete and some of the ice has begun to move and pile up on the Western shores. There is actually a gap of open water to the Gull Rock for those wanting to check out the trout situation…

This is more current….actually from this morning. You can see the ice piling up.

A “burning of the burger” ritual last night celebrating Holly’s birthday. You can see more ice piled up by the neighbors…

A panoramic from yesterday. We could sure use some rain, and there seems to be a bit of it coming this week. Perhaps it will speed up the melting process?

It’s looking like open water might be on it’s way!

So rumor has it the lake where Wilderness Air has their float plane base has finally opened up. Traditionally this occurs roughly a week before Eagle does. We shall see. For those in the position of “sitting on the fence” and waiting for the “hail Mary” prediction, your time is probably now. Send in your guess to Gord!

If you’re looking for an outstanding vacation spot for the serious fisherman or a family get away you should consider Vermillion Bay Lodge on Eagle Lake, Ontario Canada. We have stayed at many lake resorts over the years, but none offer the simple pleasures of this one. The lake is large enough and holds enough fish for the most adventuresome fisherman and yet easy for local family fishing for young children. Bring your own boat or use one of the aluminum boats (20 hp) at the lodge. Boat dockage is well protected from the wind and allows easy access to the water.

What sets this lodge apart from most others is it is always clean, well kept with lots to do including paddle boats canoes, bon fires in the evenings and a just plain friendly atmosphere.
