Ice out update #7

May 11, 2022…heading to higher ground!

Seems our wish for higher lake levels has come true…

…but things could start drying out now! Another Colorado Low coming our way tomorrow (bugger off Colorado!) with some possible intense rain events. Anyways, the dude will abide…..

What I refer to as the “pontoon dock” is looking more like the submarine dock.
The ice is looking black but still hanging in there…..halfway to Gull Rock. Interesting how small Gull Rock is this spring with the high water.
Even the neighbouring island seems to be half its size from last year!
Another perspective….glad most of the docks made it through to this point.
A trumpeter swan seems to like our location. Susanne has taken to calling him/her/it “Swannie”. He has become friends with a lone Canada goose…
The walkway to the floating docks is still dry. In case you were wondering that’s a rogue piece of old floating dock I have secured to shore…..it was looking to head out to sea!
The Government launch…….plenty of water and still plenty of ice!

My cabin 5 project continues…

…to progress slowly, in between rain storms. Overall things have been delayed and the ice conditions don’t inspire confidence in a normal opener. For that reason we’ve moved our opening week guests into the following week…..glad that everyone was flexible and was willing to make the change! Even if the ice does go out with the rain and wind I think giving it an extra week can only improve the fishing, and for sure it give us a bit of extra time to get things in order. We look forward to having a full camp on May 27th……see some of you then!

If you like GREAT fishing, hospitality and affordability, Vermilion Bay Lodge is highly recommended. I have been making the trip to Vermilion Bay Lodge for the past 10 years and have never once been disappointed. If you like great walleye, northern, musky and trout fishing, this place should not be overlooked. The fishing has been excellent… no matter what time we went. Gordy and Susanne are wonderful hosts that will make you feel right at home. Check it out – I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
