Ice out update for March 31, 2015

Before I show you what has been going on with the ice let me just reminisce about what has been going on at the lodge….and why April 5th is such an important date on the VBL calendar.

Since last September we have been under a state of virtual information lock-down after an exciting visit by Jeremy Wade and the production team of the River Monsters television show (Animal Planet channel).  The new season of River Monsters will air this coming Sunday, April 5th (It seems that this may only air in the U.S. which sucks the big one for us Canucks!) with the premiere show entitled “Canadian Horror”.    Now some might say this was inspired by the state of cleanliness of my garage (where yours truly was interviewed….”it had the intention to eat him”.…).  Regardless, we will have to bear witness to this epic broadcast to fully understand the “horrors” encountered on Jeremy’s Canadian quest.  What will they be?  A mouse in the cabin?  Sand in the sheets?  I can’t wait to find out!  In anticipation I will leak some “behind the scenes” photos of what took place last September during Musky Madness Week, with more to follow after April 5th….

Like I said, this was during Musky Madness Week, with a most noteworthy winner!  I’m sure Charles Weiss’s hand carved musky plaque is donning Jeremy’s man cave over in Bristol, England.  I thought that it was a pretty exciting development which bring me to this year’s Musky Week.

New dates for the 2015 Musky Madness Week are September 26 – October 3!

Why so, you may be asking?  It’s always good to change things up to keep them fresh, plus last year at that time we had some great musky action.  So why not have the contest when the fish are at their prime!  There is the added bonus that this year’s winner will be along side such famous names as Jeremy Wade, “Big Dick” Keller, and the infamous “The fiasco” year.  Don’t delay, book your cabin and start planning where you will hang the musky plaque…

Now back to the ice out contest:

So as you ponder this tricky balance of dwindling snow and ice, let’s give a tip of the hat to all the monsters who dwell in Eagle Lake, the stories they generate, and the brave souls who will face them this fall in the 11th annual Musky Madness Week.  Will Jeremy return to uphold his title?  Stay tuned…

If you’re looking for an outstanding vacation spot for the serious fisherman or a family get away you should consider Vermillion Bay Lodge on Eagle Lake, Ontario Canada. We have stayed at many lake resorts over the years, but none offer the simple pleasures of this one. The lake is large enough and holds enough fish for the most adventuresome fisherman and yet easy for local family fishing for young children. Bring your own boat or use one of the aluminum boats (20 hp) at the lodge. Boat dockage is well protected from the wind and allows easy access to the water.

What sets this lodge apart from most others is it is always clean, well kept with lots to do including paddle boats canoes, bon fires in the evenings and a just plain friendly atmosphere.
