Ice out update, May 1, 2014

It’s May, there’s ducks in the creek, covers on the snowmobiles, and it’s a balmy 37 degrees F.  What does it mean?  Maybe if we look back at previous years we can come to grips with the situation….

May 1, 2013

Last year wasn’t great either.  Maybe a bit less snow, and the creek is a bit more open.  Here’s a link to that 2013 Ice Out Update…May 1, 2013.  Seems today is warmer than last year….now that is surprising!

Of course nothing compares to two years ago…..

April 13, 2012 ice out

…when the ice had already been gone for two weeks by today.

So what’s the verdict?  A lot can happen in a few weeks.  Your guess is as good as mine.  Stay tuned, the next report may have the answer……..

Addendum:  Now before you start yelling that I posted this on April 30 , not May 1, I will admit you are correct.  Just think how far along the ice will be by the real May 1st !

  1. Perchmaster….I’m kind of glad I’m not there for the opening weekend, but have an extra week.

All this is good for shallow lakers though!!

  2. Dustin,

Very well said. I love fishing at VBL with my son. I introduced my father-in-law, brother-in-law, and numerous friends to VBL. It is those experiences that I most remember. The nice thing about VBL is that you can have all of those experiences AND catch fish.

I have many memories that do not involve fish, but many that do. Enjoy the moment and share those experiences on the blog.

If you’re looking for an outstanding vacation spot for the serious fisherman or a family get away you should consider Vermillion Bay Lodge on Eagle Lake, Ontario Canada. We have stayed at many lake resorts over the years, but none offer the simple pleasures of this one. The lake is large enough and holds enough fish for the most adventuresome fisherman and yet easy for local family fishing for young children. Bring your own boat or use one of the aluminum boats (20 hp) at the lodge. Boat dockage is well protected from the wind and allows easy access to the water.

What sets this lodge apart from most others is it is always clean, well kept with lots to do including paddle boats canoes, bon fires in the evenings and a just plain friendly atmosphere.
