Well, the pictures are showing quite a bit of ice on this Mother’s Day, 2014.  To put it into perspective here’s last year’s Mother’s day imagery… and a link to the Mother’s Day blog post from last year…

So we see that last year the ice had already started moving around, and probably half as much ice.  What does it mean?  Good question.  Tomorrow we have rain predicted and if the ice starts moving with some good wind a lot can happen.  In the meantime, the long range weather shows some great weather for the whole opening week.  Worse case scenario, some smaller lakes may keep us occupied till the main lake opens up.  Alternatively, horse shoes, beer drinking, no bugs, and sunshine.  Then there’s the lake trout….opening week for sure!

  1. It looks like there is open water on the south end of the bay. I assume that is wishful thinking based on your commentary?

  2. Andy you can do me a favor and pick up my winning prize and my towel Gord is holding for me and drop it off on your way back. Just take I-43 instead on 90-94 on the way home.
    Thanks
Grass is greening up and docks are in just give you the itch even more.

  3. Just as an update to the “update” with the rain that we’ve had all day today the ice on Vermilion Bay is totally black, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen before. Ice out by the weekend….maybe.

Thank you very much for making my get a way week so enjoyable. Dan and I had a great time. You and Susanne should be commended on how clean and well maintained your cabins and lodge are. I will recommend you to anyone that is looking to go to Canada fishing and I look forward to the time I can come back.
