Ice out update: May 17, 2014 “Opening Day”

Opening day, 2014, refers to the daffodils and not to the ice situation.  As of 5:00 pm we are down to roughly 40% of Vermilion Bay with a floating ice pack.  The Walleye Highway has become accessible this afternoon….although a switch in the wind might leave you camping out overnight!  Tomorrow or Monday at the latest will see the end of the ice…….stay tuned for the winner of the ice out contest.  I was predicting May 15th….a bit optimistic.

  1. I may not win the Ice Out contest…but here’s hoping I win the timing game for coming up the week after opener!

Good luck this week one and all!

    See you Saturday!!

If you like GREAT fishing, hospitality and affordability, Vermilion Bay Lodge is highly recommended. I have been making the trip to Vermilion Bay Lodge for the past 10 years and have never once been disappointed. If you like great walleye, northern, musky and trout fishing, this place should not be overlooked. The fishing has been excellent… no matter what time we went. Gordy and Susanne are wonderful hosts that will make you feel right at home. Check it out – I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
