The Cryogenic Whitetail Deer Mystery

Last January I posted a story on the Cryogenic Whitetail Deer (check it out!) in the Electric Beaver.  At that time I received an email  from one of the deer hunters that stayed with us at Vermilion Bay Lodge that fall saying they recognized those antlers as one of the many whitetail deer they photographed  on trail cameras set up in the area.

What is the story behind this “Ice Buck”?

This fall the same group was back up hunting and I reminded them of the mystery buck and the picture they thought they had.   Well to make a long story short……..

The “ICE BUCK” Revealed!  Is this “THE” whitetail deer?

Here’s a great shot of the whitetail buck caught on camera on November 6, 2010….two months previous to us finding it’s remains frozen into the ice on Eagle Lake.  Will we ever really know how it came to be locked in the ice?  My suspicion is this unfortunate whitetail deer was chased out on the ice and killed by wolves sometime after the ice came on the lake…

  1. Now that I look at it…the picture on the trail cam, and the picture on the back of the sno-mobile……..they are lined up perfect! Coincidence….or what……?
