Walleye Madness Week, 2009……

Well, the 4th Annual Walleye Madness Week has come and gone. The competition was run for three days (Monday-Wednesday) with an Awards Night and pot-luck dinner on Thursday. It was a tight finish with only a 2 point difference between first and second place. Marsha’s persistence in fishing through a few rainy evenings paid off with a first place victory! It was a close call for 2nd place runner up Dick Miller……all he needed was one more release to put it in the bag. Overall the competition was quite “laid back” compared to previous years. Marsha has indicated she has thrown down the gauntlet to the “Professors” for next years Walleye Madness Week. Will they regain their throne? Will Marsha remain the Dominatrix? Stay tuned for the 2010 Walleye Madness Week…….July 24th to 31st.

  1. Congrats to the winners!!!!
Gord…… Dude you need to clean up looks like you just came off a 2 day drunk????
HAHA!!! Must be that puffy hair job you are sporting!!!!
Looks like all had a good time!!!

  2. It's been hectic……hardly time to even shave my legs, let alone the facial hedge.

You're right though, it looks like I've been on a bender for three weeks. Hope I didn't scare any children.

Oh, by the way, someone posted a comment and when I went to put it up it disappeared. Anonymous, can you try again…a good comment it was.

  3. Hi All…Walleye Madness Week, 2009–Some say this is the premier tourney on Eagle Lake and I would have to agree. It's sponsored by an outstanding lodge that's operated by charming hosts. And, this tourney is attracting anglers who are willing to push themselves to the limit to become champions.

I'm not at all surprised to learn Marsha won it all. She exploded onto the scene in 2007 and has dominated the women's division ever since. Last year she placed third overall, narrowly missing edging me out for second place in the tourney. Congratulations, Marsha. You've come along way from the friendly confines of Gull Island.

As for Marsha "throwing down the gauntlet" to the Professors for the 2010 Walleye Madness, I would point out that this is nothing new. She's a tough competitor who's always looking for an edge. Last year she whipped a whiskey bottle at Andy and I, narrowly missing our heads after day one of the tourney. If I do compete next year, I won't be taking her lightly. Let's just say that training camp opens for me next week.

A couple of other quick thoughts…

It's worth noting that Gord's appearance is much nicer in these photos compared to the first year of the tourney back in 2006. He's really cleaned-up in the past few years. Especially the clothes.

I find myself wondering, what are the key differences between a "Big" Dick and a "Good" Dick. This never gets explained properly.

Do Dick and Dan have 151 years of combined experience fishing for walleyes on Eagle Lake?

  4. The "Dick" group is a select, highly elite group of VBL'ers. Also included is Honorary Dick (Dan), Bad Dick, Total Dick and Sandy Dick. We have a few vacant "Dick" spots left if you should choose to apply. I believe "Dick Head" is still available?

No, Dick and Dan only have 151 years of life experience between them.

  5. Professor Not sure if it just me but looks like from your post your kissing some ass to catch a break on your next trip to VBL?
    HAHA!!!
    All in fun!!!!
I don't care what you guy's say but Gord looks like he just came off the bender of all times!!!!

  6. The big fish was only 24 1/2 inches, caught by "Speeding Jack" Challis. Unfortunately he ate it so it did not count in the competition. He may have been disorientated after having his radar detector confiscated in Kenora (also a $187 fine). In the end there were two tied for big fish (both 23 1/2) caught by Mary Keller, and Good Dick Miller. Not the scads of large fish that seem to have graced previous Walleye Madness Weeks…….but there is always next year!

  7. Hey Perchmaster…You are correct in noting the ass-kissing component of my post. It's part of my overall approach to relating to Gord in a manner we can both live with.

I've found that Gord seems to do best when I'm mildly critical of him–no matter what the situation. I believe he uses this to motivate himself to be a better person. But every now and then I offer him some "baloney and crumbs" as a reward for pushing himself to excel. He simply loves this. That's what my comment was about.

If you decide to try this approach make sure you don't go overboard with the baloney and crumbs treatment. This can result in Gord getting lazy and coming to your cabin looking for handouts like sandwiches and beer–instead of operating the camp. Andy and I had a terrible time with him a few years back.

  8. Hey Professor I hear ya LOUD and CLEAR!!!!!
I have tried the ass kissing and it is not paying off at all.
I have tried the feeding him part and that makes him be nice to me but still no CUTTING ME ANY DEALS…
I will keep at it but I think he is on to me, maybe try friending up to Susanne but that will make Gord well you know what I mean.
Besides we all know Susanne is the BOSS but Gord handles the intake of ca$h so that won't work either.
Sounds like that $187 fine might have been paid for if someone would not have been so hungry!!!
O'yea and by the way Professor when you feed Gord and he is driving the boat take note when he driving from one place to another the zig zag patter he takes, hard to go a straight line when your eyes are closed while napping.

  9. Some call me a "Team Professor groupie". It's apparant from this post that the professors opted out of the walleye madness tournament. Rumor has it that they are coming up this month? Will Professor Joe again need guidance from the 2008 Walleye Madness champ, or is he tearing up the water?

  10. Yes, August 15 onwards is the "Professors gone wild week". It's a madcap week of cabin hyjinks, eccessive farting, and general bull-shit of the highest order.

Joe is presently "tearing up the waters" but says he looks forward to showing those dwelling in the past, how to do it in the present. Has he thrown down the green gaunlet?

  11. Perchmaster,

I hear that Gord has been working his butt off this summer and is just about ready to snap. I leave for a trek north in about 12 hours and we'll see if we can't make that happen.

    Andy

  12. Hope you have a good time Andy…..
I doubt that Gord is working his ASS OFF!!!!
He might say that but I have seen him in action.
    Just kidding Gord….

Testimonials

This is a first class resort located on Vermillion Bay on Eagle Lake. The cabins are very clean and well kept. The boats are new with new motors and are in great shape. The owner will also clean your fish for you after your day on the water. Make no mistake the fishing on Eagle Lake is world class.

The Lodge is owned by Gord and Susanne Bastable who will make you feel welcome and before you know it you feel like family. They are the best of hosts. The atmosphere is low key and laid back leading to a great vacation.

This is my 19th year of enjoying the hospitality of the lodge and i can’t think of going anywhere else on Eagle Lake.
