Ice Out Update: #2

Is winter back?

Snow encrusted cabin one.
April showers bring May flowers…..bullshit!
Somewhere out here there are docks and a lake. Anyone want to BBQ?
Nothing that some warm temperatures, sunshine and a stiff drink won’t cure…
Might want to leave the snow tires on for the summer!
Your cabin includes complimentary snowshoes and a shovel.

It can only get better…

Sure, this looks pretty grim. Fortunately I can putter around inside the lodge redoing the kitchen floor while the rest of the camp is “iced in”. Might be time to run some gas out to the portage lakes while the ice is 3 feet thick. Clean and organize the garage? The possibilities for fun are endless. Here’s a few pictures from last week when things were progressing more on schedule….

One foot of frozen slush followed by two feet of solid ice.
A mighty “Perca flavescens”**

Did you know…

The yellow perch, commonly referred to as perch, striped perch, American perch,American river perch or preacher is a freshwater perciform fish native to much of North America.” Perhaps VBL should rename the “Bull Perch Rodeo” to the “Preacher Fish Fandango”? I await your suggestions…

The barren lands of Eagle Lake encased in ice. Susanne: “Is it lunch time yet?”
One can always walk to the “point” for entertainment. We’re a few weeks away from cooking lunch here.
Proof that time can stand still.
I thought a few goats around camp might help with lawn maintenence, but S. vetoed my great idea.

Border crossing update:

In case you’ve missed it, there is no longer a requirement to have a Covid test before crossing the border. This will simplify things and eliminate the expense. However you will still need to use the “Canada app” and submit it online before crossing. The vaccine requirement will still be in place for 2022. If you have a reservation at the lodge for this season please ensure that all members of your group can meet the vaccine requirement. We’ve had several groups recently cancell for this reason. While we are disappointed to lose guests for this summer, we do appreciate the early notification so that we may offer the cabin(s) to others who might be interested.

There’s still time to enter your ice out guess…

Drop me an email (vbay@drytel.net) with your prediction…good luck!

  1. I guess my guess of April XX for the ice out date is going to be way too early. Oh, well… At least that means the lake levels will be better for fishing right?
